He is a perceptive and friendly young man who can talk his way in to and out of trouble as easily as most men chew tobacco. His mother is an accomplished actress and his father was some kind of Indian diplomat, although stories about his exact occupation vary from family member to family member. Whatever his father's background, Taj has accepted the fact that he will never know the truth.
He sees the Titanic as a brilliant way to forget about the possibility of a major war occuring in Europe, and hopefully to lead him to some better life in America. He is currently juggling between writing for the Argus in Melbourne, and writing a novel.
